Teleprompter vs confidence monitor
Both show a speaker their words. One puts them in front of the camera lens, the other puts them on the floor or lectern.
A teleprompter uses beam splitter glass so text appears directly in front of the camera lens: you look at the audience through the lens. A confidence monitor is a screen placed in front of the speaker, on the stage floor or a lectern, showing notes, slides or the script.
