The 9 best teleprompter apps for iPhone in 2026, according to 1,864 real reviews

Star ratings all look the same: everything is 4.6 to 4.9. So we read the reviews people actually vote as helpful, and counted what they praise and what makes them quit.

Search "teleprompter" on the App Store and every result has a glowing rating. The popular apps sit between 4.6 and 4.9 stars, with tens of thousands of ratings each. That tells you almost nothing about which one will work for you.

So we did the slow thing. On September 19, 2026 we pulled the 250 reviews US App Store users marked as most helpful for eight of the most popular teleprompter apps, 1,864 reviews in total, and read them. We tagged every complaint and every compliment: voice scrolling, recording, billing, bugs, ads, remotes. This guide is what they told us.

Full disclosure

We make Teleprompter Premium+, the new app highlighted below. It's too new to have hundreds of reviews to analyze, so it sits outside the ranking, which is built only on what users say about the other apps.

What 1,864 reviews taught us

1. Ease of use is the number one reason people stay

In the most helpful positive reviews of Teleprompter (Teleprompter Apps Ltd), 113 mention that it's easy or simple. Teleprompter Pro gets 90 such mentions and Teleprompter.com 76. People downloading a teleprompter usually have a video due today. They reward the app that gets out of the way.

2. Voice scrolling is the most loved and most hated feature

A teleprompter that follows your voice sounds like magic, and when it works reviewers love it. When it doesn't, it's the whole review. For PromptSmart Pro, the pioneer of voice tracking, 70 of its 125 negative most-helpful reviews are about voice. Test it with your own voice, in your own room, before you pay.

3. Billing, not bugs, is where trust breaks

Across the apps, the angriest reviews are rarely about a missing feature. They're about being charged when a free trial ended without a reminder, or about features moving to a more expensive plan. For BIGVU, 42 of 96 negative helpful reviews mention pricing, subscriptions or charges.

4. Ads and floating windows don't mix

Apps that float the script over the native Camera app are a great idea. But ads between every pause and play make filming "almost impossible", in one reviewer's words. For Floating Notes, 12 of 65 negative helpful reviews mention ads.

5. The star rating hides the real story

PromptSmart Pro has a 4.6★ average, yet half of its 250 most helpful reviews are one or two stars. Ratings are often left in the first minutes of use; detailed reviews come after weeks. Read the three most recent critical reviews of any app before you subscribe.

New in 2026: Teleprompter Premium+

Before the ranking, the newcomer. Teleprompter Premium+ launched in 2026 and was designed around the problems that fill the reviews above: voice scrolling that loses you, surprise paywalls, ads while filming, and accounts you never asked for.

Filming in the Camera app

Independent developer · on the App Store since 2021 · 4.6★ from 1,644 ratings (US)

A clever idea: the script floats over your iPhone's own Camera app, so you keep native camera quality and cinematic mode. Reviewers love the concept and the voice scroll, but the free version's ads and the floating window's bugs drag it down.

7 red flags to check before you subscribe

  1. Trial terms: when does it charge, and will you get a reminder? It's the most common source of one-star reviews.
  2. Voice scrolling in your room: test with your real voice, microphone and script length.
  3. Export: can you save the video you recorded without paying?
  4. Offline use: does the app lock up without internet?
  5. Account: do you have to sign up, and where are your scripts stored?
  6. Ads: are they only on the free tier, and do they interrupt recording?
  7. Recent reviews: sort by most recent and read the last three critical ones.

How we did this

Ratings and rating counts come from the US App Store on September 19, 2026. For each of the eight ranked apps we pulled the reviews App Store users sorted as most helpful through Apple's public customer-review feed, up to 250 per app, 1,864 in total, and tagged each one by topic. Feature lists come from each app's own App Store description. Quotes are verbatim. Most-helpful reviews lean critical, since detailed complaints collect helpful votes, so read our percentages as "what engaged users say", not as a replacement for the star rating.
